Another Face of Cikapundung

(We should be more concerned about the environment)

Cikapundung, the river that became the mascot of Bandung this was formerly be a source of life of citizens, especially residents who live on the outskirts of the river. The water was used for everyday needs, ranging from the need to bathe, drink, and there are also some residents who make “keramba”. But now it has been polluted river water. The water is brownish yellow color because it is polluted by waste. So what about people living on the fringes of the river? whether they still rely water contaminated with waste?

In Kebon Bibit Barat, in the area who traversed by rivers Cikapundung, there is a slum which was inhabited by immigrant residents, who on average came from Garut. The majority of citizens worked as a peddler who trade around the Cihampelas Walk Mall. Where they lived very different from human habitation should, far from the sun. A lined small cubicles only a size of approximately 3 x 3 meters, the small cubicles occupied by one family. Very far from feasible.

Not all have private bathrooms. If they wanted a bath, there is a common bathroom which is located not far from their residence, any doubt about cleanliness of water resources. Several small children play happily look around the environment, without knowing the dangers of disease that will attack them because they live far away from the net.

" Parties Ciwalk currently not waste a lot of waste into the river after getting complaints from people around here, they recycle the wastes mall " said Mr.Kiki, as the chairman of RT in the area. Mr Kiki, who serves as chairman of the RT during the two periods in this region also explains that during these citizens only get help from the government in the form "raskin", no handling is further to the problems of this slum.

  1. Good reporting, video and photos team. Did anyone have stories about children getting sick or maybe dying from the pollution?
    How about a headline:
    Bandung's source of life
    now a source of sickness
