Gebrak Fikom , An Effort to Reduce Academic Fraud

Cheating, duplicating, and falsifying the absency are several things that students getting used to do without knowing those things are included to ‘”Academic Fraud”. Considering this problem, the students of Department of Management Comunication in Faculty of Communication University of Padjadjaran 2009 held an event called Gebrak Fikom (Gerakan Berantas Kecurangan Akademik Fakultas Ilmu Komunikasi) with the theme “Against Academic Fraud”.

Gebrak Fikom Universitas Padjadjaran was held for occupying a major task from the subject “Campaign and propaganda”. This event that was held on May 25th-27th divided into three sessions. The opening was on Tuesday (25/5), and filled with Brinet Idol and other bands. The second day was on Wednesday (26/5) and filled by academic fraud seminar with Engkus Sumarno and Amir Tengku Ramli (writer, motivator, and Pendidikan Plumping Learning Center’s consultan) as discussants. The closing was on Thursday (27/5) and filled with music performances and a play by Gelanggang Seni Sastra Teater Film (GSSTF) Unpad
.
The event was based on research by Gebrak Fikom team. The result was showing that 57 of 100 students in Fikom cheating on final exam, two of ten students cheating without getting known by the lecturer, and 57 of 100 students falsifying the absency.

According to the chief organizer ,Rendy Ega, the concept of this event was made with the spirit of youth. That is the reason why this event filled with band performance and also a play. “We know that this event is for youth so if we made it too serious we afraid the students would be bored. That is why this event was filled by many bands and also a play”
When being asked with the question how “clean” the team of Gebrak Fikom from academic fraud, Rendy answered “I also ever done academic frauds like cheating on exam but now I prefer skip the question to cheat. The crew of Gebrak was not very clean from academic fraud but we hope this campaign could reduce or even omit it at all”

Drs. Mohd. Hussein Nawawi, M.Si as the lecturer said that Faculty of Communication haven’t had a clear regulation about academic fraud that done by not only students but also the lecturers. Hussein called the person who done the academic fraud as a thief. “Cheating means taking other person stuff , it is just the same as stealing. Whereas, the academic purity shows that someone has a self esteem. The task that done by our own selves would be a pride instead of a task as a result from cheating”, he said.
