First Finger Print of Design and Fine Arts



“When I was student here, there was not something like this. The only major we had was Fine Arts and Craft. Nowadays, the faculty of Fine Arts and Design has developed,”. Said Aryo (46), former student of Mechanical Engineering Major Class of 1974, as he attended Sidik Jari, the exhibition of Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design Faculty that was held at Gedung Serba Guna ITB, Tuesday (25/5) and Wednesday (26/5)


According to Muhammad Fajrur (20), Sidik Jari committee chief, the exhibition is an annual event, and was held in order to help the freshman (force 2009) for choosing majors. Ajuy, Muhammad Fajrur’s nickname, said that the name of Sidik Jari was selected becoming theme because it illustrates the differences and characteristics of each person that became value for each person. “The exhibition was great! It made me more interested in this faculty,” said Ceptian, who just graduated from Lembang 1 Senior High School.

The exhibition was a means to display the capability of Faculty of Fine Arts and Design students who was about to choose one of five majors availabled. Those majors are Visual Communication Design, Product Design, Interior Design, Craft, and Fine Arts. “After seeing the work of the students, lecturers in the department will recommend the most suitable for them. But, decision remain was in the hands of students,” said Ajuy.


More than one thousand works of 218 students displayed in Sidik Jari, consist of drawing shapes, drawing the constructions, two-dimensional and three-dimensional nirmana. Besides their works, the student also showed their ability to entertain the audience by performing music and dances.To further enliven Sidik Jari, urban artists were brought, names like the Astronaut Boys and Face Painting Community attended for performing gigs.
